ACER PREDATOR HELIOS 300 Review

We recently had a very good time reviewing Predator Helios 300. This is a really good machine and ran all the games we had and After Effects and Premiere Pro also. Although this device is right now priced at 1.20 lakhs on Flipkart but this unit I got it for 90,000 during a sale on Flipkart.

So now let us discuss more this laptop in detail.

Let me tell you the specs first

Operating System: Windows 10 Home

Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 i7-9750H 2.60 GHz Hexa-core (6 Core™)

Display: 15.6″ LCD IPS Full HD 1920 x 1080

Refresh Rate: 144 Hz

Storage: 256GB SSD + 1TB HDD

Graphics: NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 1660Ti 6 GB GDDR6

Memory: 16GB DDR4 SDRAM (2 Slots)

RGB Backlit Keyboard

Display

The display is 144Hz and this has to be in a gaming laptop at this price point. The colors are great and the display is fast and good for gaming. The viewing angles are okay. The edges are sharp and thus provide a gaming profile to the outer shell and display. You get a webcam along with microphones. We have seen some ASUS ROG laptops not having a webcam. The chin on the display is a bit thick with the PREDATOR logo on it.

Performance

The device performs very well be it gaming of editing on After Effects or Premiere Pro. Mind you, you must play games with power on otherwise there will be a lot of frame drops in high settings on many games. The power brick is huge 185W and it is much needed for the Nvidia 1660ti. It performed okay on the Cinebench. The scores were 1,046 whereas the MSI G65 performed better with 1,144 which is not much. Even XPS 15 had better core performance than this. On the GPU front Moving onto the performance of the GeForce GTX 1660ti, the Acer Predator Helios 300 doesn’t disappoint as we see it just barely edging out the other GTX 1660ti laptops. The 3DMARK score was 14,796 which is good. We played Red Dead Redemption 2, PUBG Mobile, and many games listed below with their frame rates and setting.

Red Dead Redemption 2 2019

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds (PUBG) 2017

Sound

This device needed a more powerful speaker and this is fair most of us prefer using headphones while gaming. The audio is okay.

Overall Verdict

We really enjoyed gaming on this laptop and we also edited some videos. The fans are good and this device does heat up but we would not call that overheating. This is a good laptop while you have some other options as well as the Dell G7, Lenovo Legion Y740, and MSI GL63. Lenovo Legion Y540 is also a cheaper option to this and the laptop is also very capable.
