Samsung Galaxy M31
We have seen many big battery smartphones but this one from Samsung is a beast in the battery department! Alongside a decent processor for multitasking and a good camera. Let’s dig into this and see what it has to offer!
The Galaxy M31 is the latest in Samsung’s lineup of affordable online-exclusive smartphones designed specifically for Asian markets like India. The M31 is an iterative upgrade over the Galaxy M30s launched late last year and features mostly camera-related changes to differentiate itself.
The pricing for 6GB+64GB is ₹ 16,856 & 6GB+128GB is₹ 17,910
Samsung Galaxy M31 comes with a 6.4-inch Super AMOLED display, which gets a waterdrop style notch over the bezel-less screen. It has a screen resolution of 1,080 x 2,280 pixels along with a pixel density of 403 PPI. It offers a great viewing experience as you all know Samsung is the display king. The display can be extra useful for those who love to edit pictures and consume content on mobile phones.
The Galaxy M31 sports a quad-camera setup at the back and a single 32-megapixel selfie shooter. The primary camera on the Galaxy M31 has a 64-megapixel resolution and f/1.8 aperture. This camera takes 16-megapixel binned shots by default but you can switch to the full resolution. There’s also an 8-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera with a 123-degree field of view and an f/2.2 aperture. The other two are a 5-megapixel depth sensor and a 5-megapixel macro camera. Samsung’s camera app is the same as before and we could find our way around it very easily. There’s a toggle to switch between the primary and the wide-angle cameras. The Scene Optimiser is quick to detect scenes and set the camera up accordingly.
The camera was able to shoot pictures very nicely in daylight and HDR also worked very nicely the 64 MP pictures were very detailed and will offer good quality if you crop your pictures. The Galaxy M31 is capable of separating subjects and backgrounds when shooting close-ups, giving a natural depth effect. However, we felt that bright colors were reproduced too aggressively, resulting in a loss of detail. The macro camera takes decent shots outdoors but the quality dips when indoors. The output is restricted to 5 megapixels in resolution. Pictures taken in the night mode are grainy and noisy. But this is okay from a budget phone offering some extra benefits on the other end.
The Galaxy M31 runs on the same Exynos 9611 that we have seen on a few Samsung devices so far, including the Galaxy M30s. It’s an octa-core chipset based on the newer but not quite the latest 10nm process. This is a mid-range processor and is good for multitasking and day to day usage The performance on the Galaxy M31 is decent. Most of the time the phone seems fast and fluid while scrolling through or switching between applications. The performance on the Galaxy M31 is decent. Most of the time the phone seems fast and fluid while scrolling through or switching between applications. Multimedia performance on the Galaxy M31 is also decent. The loudspeaker is also loud and also comes with a headphone jack. Gaming is not ideal here you can play some games but not a game-centric phone. We played PUBG Mobile and it was just okay.
Galaxy M31 comes with a massive 6000mAh battery. And may offer about one additional day for those who use the phone very rarely. The battery is terrific and it is truly a Gem for those looking for a good battery phone. The device supports 15W charging which takes a while to charge and offers a day battery life.
This device a very good at three things – Battery, Camera, Multitasking. This is not an ideal device to game on for this we have Realme 6 and POCO X2 which offers better gaming. This device is great for those who love to consume media and do calls. Using multiple apps and switching between them this is what it is suitable for. The device is also very good for your parents and may easily buy this device because of Samsung branding.
